Hillary Clinton and the case of the missing manners

We had a spelling contest last week in my class and when the winner was picked, the runner up gave the boy who won a high five and yelled out a big, sincere “way to go!”.

Hillary Clinton could learn things from my class.

And that’s the nicest thing I have to say about it.

(And if this post wasn’t enough of a confirmation, let me assure you- the CNN addiction is back in full swing. Wolf Blitzer, will you be my boo?)

  • I’m so happy it’s (presumptively) over!

  • You mean it’s safe to run the TV back on?

  • I am really confused by her actions at this point. I am just not really sure what she is hoping for.

There are rumors of a video account of Michelle Obama giving a vitriolic “hate whitey” speech at that same church he has been in trouble over, and maybe Hillary is hoping that the video comes out before the convention…?

But that seems like a really fantastical long-shot.

Also, he is an idiot if he puts her on the ticket as VP…

  • you know me and politics. i follow them but i dont. i pay attention but i dont always get it. this may (does) make me lame-o and out of the loop right around now. but i figure i can learn things from you and means a lot to me.

    you said boo. woot.

  • I’m soooo happy it’s over. Even though I enjoyed the fight and the fact that Obama (presumptively) won, I couldn’t spend one more day seeing Hillary’s haircut on tv. I swear that’s what bothered me about her the most!! haha

  • Sicilian Mama

I was starting to wonder if you were going to comment on the last few days events. I agree…someone needs to have some lessons in being a good sport.

Now, how do you feel about her possibly running with OBAMA as VP? Can I tell you that my conspiracy theory side of my started running the minute I read that she was thinking about it. What can I say? I don’t trust white women. And I say that with the full understanding that I AM a white woman. We are not to be trusted, yo! (and this is where my feminist friend will slap me upside the head, but I don’t care).

Ok, now that you know I”m officially crazy. Have a good day!

  • Delurking again to let you know that you are tagged in my blog…

Nice post… Wish i were like that kid that came in second… I’m more likely to sit in a corner and sulk…

  • Brilliant. I would never even hope for a high five but a little acknowledgment seems to me a bare minimum. Hilarious.

  • Lordy lord, thank god that’s done. And three cheers for Obama! But, to be fair, Hillary probably invested a bit more time and money in her presidential campaign than the kiddo in your class invested in his Spelling Bee campaign. That said, that kid’s mama raised him right. Three cheers for him, too!

  • The thought of Hillary giving him the big high five is priceless! She really isn’t doing herself any favours…

  • AGREED. Whole-freakin-heartedly.

  • I’m a little torn on the VP nomination…if Obama did put her on the ticket, he might get all the Democratic votes he missed out on in the primaries. I’m glad she FINALLY threw in the towel…

  • Oh Miss. Brandy… you know when you want something SO bad… like, SO bad… that you’d do everything and anything to NOT give up the dream?

Times that by 10000000X… and I guess that’s what Senator. Clinton is feeling right now. She went from a ‘guaranteed’ nominee to… well, to where she is now.

I don’t care who you are; that’s GOTTA hurt.

Obama did one hell of a job; and she did say that she was honoured to run against him and to call him her friend :)

  • Okay whoever is raising the runner up kid in your class really deserves a high five. Please tell that child’s caretaker they are doing an awesome job.

  • But doesn’t Hillary’s time in the Oval Office as First Lady mean anything to you? She doesn’t have to concede, conceding is a sign of weakness. In America we like to pound our chests as if we’re very important.

  • I don’t usually delve into politics here in blogland (though I often do in the real world), but well said, my friend, well said.

  • pam

I echo someone’s else’s comment on the kid being a good sport. The child’s caretaker deserves a high five.

I can’t figure out what Hillary’s motives at this point are either. It’ll be interesting to see what plays out leading into the convention.

  • Oh, Hilary. The girl had to take a lot of shit even before she started to run for this election… I know that I would have a hard time giving up and cheering the other one on.

That kid is great. His parents must be fantastic folks. :)

  • I can’t be too critical because I’m the same way when I lose. All whiney and mad.

  • Of course, I fully expect Clinton to pull a Ted Kennedy. I distrust her that much.

Here’s to hoping she bows out gracefully.

  • I was torn between CNN and MSNBC last night. Was totally dumbfounded at her speech though. I’m wondering if the amount of debt her campaign has managed to rack up means she’s “staying in it” just to raise more money. Wanting to get donations to thank her for running in the first place? Or something?

  • You think? There’s a lot she could learned from you class.

Her behavior doesn’t take away from the excitement, however. IT’s really a historic time for the United States. I’m so so happy!

  • I loved the “you’re not my boo” “but I want to be your boo” exchange last night. LOVED IT.

I’m going to keep using that phrase until it feels natural. I love me some boo. :)

  • Anne- Ditto!

    allthewine- Me too!!

Dingo- No way. I don’t think TV is safe until after November. Oh general election, you are going to kill me!

AM- I’m with you on the VP idea. If he DID do it, he would just look like he was caving- and I have to say, I blame her partly for that.

brookem- the way you feel about politics, is the way I feel about baseball. And you? Are never lameo.

LPB- I never noticed her hair. I noticed Bill’s though- i can’t get over how white it is! He’s like, a saintly (and sleazy) version of Santa.

SM- I’ve been holding back on saying something, I wanted to ignore it (I mean, I didn’t even write about Edwards endorsing Obama), but her speech annoyed me enough to write something. As for her as VP, I don’t think it’s a good idea. I mean, people focus so much on what she would ‘bring’ to the ticket, which I think is a lot, but as for the actual running of the country, I think it would be a train wreck. She’s too powerful to be second fiddle, she’s too defiant to put someone else ahead of her (see her speech for confirmation of this) and too polarizing to bring enough people together for it to be useful. And can I just say that I love your conspiracy theory? I’m a white woman, can you trust me?

    Sue- :)

    Bungi- Sometimes I sulk too.

Meeks- But how cool would a high five of been?

Laurie- Agreed. But for me, the idea is that despite the effort, time and passion- a person always has the choice to be gracious. I just wish she would have tried harder.

    Marianne- I think I want a t-shirt with an Obama/Clinton high five.

deutlich- I thought you would. ;)

    LCT- Thanks!

    Mel Heth- Me too!

Carrie- I thought you would disagree! ;) My problem wasn’t that she was upset, or that she didn’t concede- my problem was that she wasn’t gracious. He WON, and she continued to argue that she was a better candidate. It’s one thing to stand firm on the issues, and another to completely ignore the facts and ignore the final result. And although I completely agree that such a result would be insanely difficult, it’s not as though yesterday she woke up suddenly behind. This has been in the works for awhile, you know?

desireenb- I have! And it was nice to see that the mom wasn’t surprised. I like parents who aren’t shocked when they hear their kids did the right thing.

    sizzle- Good!:)

egan- Sadly the Oval Office time isn’t the big factor for me. But I do agree, conceding is weakness. Much better to stay in the race, cause chaos and design t-shirts for your website.

    geekhiker- Thanks buddy!

pam- I know! That’s awesome hey?!

Katrin- Giving up would be hard. But in the long run, I think being a bit more sportsmanlike (sportswomanlike?) in her speech would have helped her a lot.

hollywoodsucker- Then, let me say right now- I may not vote for you if you ever run for office. :)

    eyeingtenure- Fingers crossed.

Kevin Spencer- That’s definitely a thought. She has a lot to pay for and even if she’s Obama’s VP, it’s not like he can pay her debt for her. I suppose he can help her fundraise it off, but still. There’s millions to be paid. Oy.

Diane Mandy- Me too! I’m pumped for the general election.

SWF42- Wasn’t that the greatest?? Oh, Anderson Cooper you are so damn cute.

  • I’m so glad that we finally have a nominee, although I have to say I was totally team Hillary until a few months ago where something within her changed. Anyhow I am totally happy for Obama, I think he has what it takes – but I agree w/Mel – I am torn on the whole should he pick Hillary as his VP. I guess time will tell. And well, I think you know of my unrequited love for Anderson Cooper – I loved the exchange between him and Donna Brazile last night, you know – I will totally be Anderson’s boo.

  • no no no no keith olbermann > wolf blitzer any day!!!

but yes. Hillary has a lot to learn, and it looks like she’s finally going to make things right on Friday (or saturday) :-)!!!

  • Hells yeah, designing t-shirts is so much more fun than conceding. Fine, I think Oval Office time is very important and thus why she promoted her time as First Lady so much. I mean, it’s not actual experience, but it works. First Ladies are elected officials right?

  • I wonder what Hillary’s advisers have been telling her all of this time. Maybe she just fires anyone who doesn’t agree with her or everyone is too intimidated to speak up.

  • Hehe, I KNEW your addiction would come back this week. :)

  • how do you always know the right things to say?? it’s a gift, i tell ya!

  • Semichrmd- That exchange totally made my night. Anderson just said it so… earnestly. Donna Brazile is one cool chick.

Maxie- Did you see Keith go ape shit when she spoke about RFK? That was classic television.

kristin- Ha! That perfectly sums up what I find challenging about her.

egan-Anyone who has to endure the type of sniper fire she spoke of deserves their First Lady experience recognized.

    Ally- I wonder that too.

silverneurotic- I know. I wish I knew how to quit CNN.

thatChick- I think the trick is to just talk ALL THE TIME. Doing this will ensure that you will say something right eventually. :)

  • did you see Donna Brazile say to Anderson Cooper – “you’re not my boo” ??!!!

    she is hilarious!

  • I feel like cringing when I see Hilary now. Like how she went to a debate on Israel yesterday with McCain and Obama? Seriously? I had so much respect for her, but it is drifting away. *sigh*

  • I thought you should know, I chatted about Hillary for roughly 7 minutes at work today. Whether or not she’ll be the VP on the ticket. Hard call if you ask me.

  • I thought I kicked my CNN habit, but it came back a few weeks ago. Has Larry King always been orange?

  • HC- Yep I did! Absolutely brilliant. I love her!

    PP- That’s exactly it. It’s like… she was so… A game and now… meh.

egan- I appreciate you letting me know about this. I wish my co-workers enjoyed such convos.

Elisabeth- Yes, I think he has. Though, he hasn’t always been so skinny. I saw footage of him from the 90′s and he was double the size!
