I cannot decide which is more disturbing:
1. That despite not watching the season, I found myself transfixed while watching season finale of The Bachelor tonight. And I may have watched the whole second hour while standing on the couch, mouth open, spewing such a hateful and curse riddled tirade that a sailor would have blushed. And wept for his mom. And peed his pants.
2. I just admitted to spending two hours of my life watching THE BACHELOR. TWO HOURS. I could have written an epic haiku in that amount of time. Or upped my calcium intake with a few glasses of milk. Or deep conditioned my hair. Or napped. I curse losing those two hours to Jason and his fickle heart.
Also?
Words/phrases I never want to hear again after watching two hours of THE BACHELOR:
- “when you look at me with those amazing green eyes, you’ve got me”
- “amazing”
- ” I never thought I would fall in love with two people at the same time”
- “journey”
- “self discovery”
- “no regrets”
- “family is important”
- “taking down the walls”
- “I love you”
Just kidding about the last one.
Maybe.

Sometimes I’m really glad I don’t have a tv.
Haha–I have never seen an episode, but now I am dying of curiosity! This has so many people up in arms. I love it!
he is such a rotten jerk. i get that abc was all “we want you to live your relationship in front of the cameras” but shit jason. break up with mel privately then FAKE IT A BIT LONGER until your contract with abc is up. every other bachelor that broke up with the girl managed to do it without dragging her in front of the cameras. jeebus.
gag gag gag. i will seriously never watch this show again. he ruined it for me. too bad, because he was kinda cute!
I also never want to hear “I’ve never been so happy in my entire life” or “This is the happiest day of my life” again. Ugh. Painful.
They were cheating the whole time. There is no way that she “let her walls down” so quickly. The best part of the entire show was when Melissa called him a bastard. I’m still steaming!
I think there’s much more going on than we know about. Yes, that’s an obvious statement. But I get the feeling something went terribly wrong with Melissa and I’m so curious what it is. Something so bad he’s willing to do what he did tonight to correct things. I’m sure people are going to make him out to be a shit, but come on… this happens all the time in real world relationships.
Yes, I’m staying up to watch his interview on Jimmy Kimmel to see if I can learn more about his decision. I still wish he chose Jillian, the cool Canadian chick.
Why is everyone so outraged? I thought it was a bit tough to watch, but very real. Oh well.
Originally I thought that the girlfriend was going to want me to watch it with her but she called me that afternoon and told me she had a feeling she would be too angry afterwards so we ate dinner and watched Princess Bride instead.
Now I’m curious as to why everyone is so pissed off.
Hubby referred to him as the greatest “pimp daddy” of all time for being able to dump one girl on t.v. while getting another girl to go out with him. Yes, I’d have to agree.
And before tonight, I adored him. Now I just want him to stop crying.
And I love Jillian more than ever.
“Amazing” is so over used.
Also, wasn’t it 3 hours? Gah! I hate myself for knowing that.
I should’ve stopped after the finale, but nooooo, I needed to find out what was so important, it meant not taping in front of an audience.
I thought it meant he was back with Deanna.
This is further proof for me that men have absolutely no darn idea what they want…EVER!
Ugh. I knew what was going to happen because of the spoilers. And then it did happen. So sad and stupid and ‘reality tv’.
http://fab.typepad.com
Clue me in here?
What about “I never wanted to say goodbye to you”
And, 2 hours? Did you not watch After the Rose???
dang. good. tv.
and round two airs tonight!
Ughhhhhhh, JASON: You suck!
Don’t worry about giving up those two hours, I’ve given up way more!
I got sick of all of the “she opened herself up to me” comments.
This is a great piece on last night’s trainwreck: http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20262579,00.html
The man is a massive tool. I’ll admit, I sent him a hate twitter. Bastard.
Yeah, I’m really thankful that I didn’t turn on that show in my boredom last night. That would have been awful!
i couldn’t help but comment either… it was that irritating! then again, that’s just what ABC wanted… ugh, so frustrating
Never watched the Bachelor. And this is probably why.
I was so pulling for my hometown girl Melissa. I’m so pissed about all of that. That was so frustrating and ridiculous!! Srsly!! I was floored. and mad. More than i should have been over a stupid ridiculous TV show!!
God, my roommate watches this show. He had 2 things going on the TiVo at once, so I had to watch an episode about a month ago (or nothing at all). So when he had it on last night, I got sucked in right away. Luckily, he had it on TiVo again, so we could skip the commercials.
But the girl he picked got fat. I mean, I saw a good 20 extra lbs on her just from looking at her jaw line. Apparently she used to be a Dallas Cowboys cheerleader, so I guess she quit the team AND the diet since she was getting married.
I think we all have a lesson to learn here.
I have no idea what happened! I couldn’t bring myself to watch this season. I guess I’m off to google and find out what all the rage is!
I hadn’t watched the season either, but twitter forced me to tune in during the 2nd hour, and wow…I thought Jason was supposed to be the nice single dad, not the douchey, pansy cryer. Jeez. Painful, so painful.
Hey, wasn’t it THREE hours if you include the After the Final Rose debacle?! I love Jason, but man there had to be a better way. And apparently there is more tonight!
Drama, drama, drama.
WOW! So I just got back from a short google escapade!
This is my favorite line from a few articles:
“Is he looking for a job on the soaps or is he just shallow, ethically bankrupt and clueless?”
Found here: http://www.examiner.com/x-264-Celebrity-News-Examiner~y2009m3d3-Poll-Is-Bachelor-Jason-Mesnick-a-hopeless-romantic-or-a-clueless-jackass
I think I’ve met my fair share of “ethically bankrupt” men! You?
I have to admit, I enjoyed the drama. Hearing about everyone’s amazing love for each other was, frankly, boring. Chris Harrison insists it wasn’t ABC’s doing. It was all Jason the Jerk.
Wow, you ladies are taking Jason to task on this. Don’t you think there’s probably much more to the story? I mean we never saw Melissa’s family. Maybe there was friction with the parents, his son, or something else. Let’s not paint him out to be such a bad guy yet. I’m guessing many people have had a change of heart about relationships.
well, i watched it last night from 1130-1am because i had to know.
while i do feel badly that this all happened with melissa (the breakup) on tv, i kind of feel for jason in a way. but i also feel a bit irked.
and that my friend, is a prime example of MY fickle heart lately.
I think that Molly should have told him she was over him and was with someone else. That would have been so much better!
I’ve never seen this show in my life, but I desperately wish I’d watched it! So much drama! I feel left out.
@brookem HUGE E-HUG
I spent the night watching two hours of 24.
I think they were equally as believable.
ureghhgreidaji42/.
hi, my name is sarah, and i care WAY TOO MUCH about the bachelor apparently, as i woke up this morning still fuming.
and have proceeded to read reality steve, a bachelor blog, all morning.
le sigh. after seasons of brad, deanna and jason, its official. you must be at least 3% crazy to be on the show, and if you save that 3% for one episode, preferably the finale, you are golden.
poor little melissa. my heart hurts for her.
It’s so mushy and turns out he’s a jerk!! Who fools the rest of the world. URGH.
I kind of wish Molly would have told him to f*** off, but because of the fact that she practically leapt back into his arms and because of all Chris Harrison’s questions about “what if, blah blah blah” it’s hard not to believe this wasn’t all staged!!!
I acually didn’t watch the whole thing just the final of the regular bachelor and all of the final rose. Here’s something to think about… Jason said their chemistry changed. Really? *wink* the chemistry changed?
You know thats something that can change the relationship. Also, Molly is now sloppy seconds.
I wonder what round 2 is about?
Settle down now. Just remember that the time wasted watching THE BACHELOR was an important part of your journey of self discovery, and you should have no regrets. To keep yourself balanced, remind yourself that family is important. Life is amazing. Never forget that.
i, too, was one who didn’t watch this season’s episodes but i did tune into the finale and after the rose show and thought it was utterly ridiculous and predictable.
not only did he utter every single male breakup cliché to melissa but he strung along two women to fulfill his childish needs.
I have so many issues with Jason. At first I was totally in love with him. He seemed like an awesome guy. Right before he chose, when he said he wasn’t sure which girl to choose I thought surely he must just be saying that for drama’s sake. How could a person propose to someone if minutes before they hadn’t been sure which girl? My point is this: This is not grade school “marriage” stuff. In real life, when a person wants to marry someone else, it means something. A person should not propose if they are not certain. I could see if he had been sure and then had changed his mind later, but he was clearly not sure even when he did choose. I understand the premise of the show was for him to get married, but where was his sense of responsibility to be a genuine person? Then to jump from being engaged to one person to wanting to be with another person…well, that just doesn’t show much class. And to do it on tv is even less classy in my opinion. Melissa did not deserve that. Molly didn’t deserve to have everyone who watched it know she was his second choice. He also sort of cheated. He chose. Then when he was done with the first girl, he chose the second runner up. Really? I expected Molly to tell him no or at least make him work for it. Instead she was all kissy with him. I was very disappointed in the whole thing.
P.S. I am totally crazy to have put so much thought into the whole choice/decision he made. It’s a tv show for goodness sakes! I may have been a little too into this one! AND I can not wait to see what the second after the rose special is tonight! What in the world could it possibly be????
P.P.S. I think maybe Jason should step away from the marriage thing for now and just maybe date casually. Don’t you think it is silly to jump from being ready to marry DeAnna to ready to marry Melissa to being ready to marry Molly? Is he just ready to be married to SOMEONE or is he actually choosing WHO he wants to be with?
P.P.P.S. I do realize that there is way more to this than we saw and my opinions are based solely on what was aired and how he seemed to act.
Also? Now I am done leaving millions of comments for you.
i feel like i missed out not watching this show. but then your recap basically filled me in on everything i needed to know, haha.
Depends, how disturbing do you find it that I already know, three weeks from now, that I’ll be spending two hours watching the finale to Battlestar Galactica?
I came across your blog thru the 20Somethings, and I absolutely love your blog! Do you mind if I copy your format of this entry? My friend and I spent three hours of our lives watching the Duggars get married and I so felt the exact same way you did about the Bachelor. Awesome post!
uuuuuuuuuugggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh (except i’m totally going to watch tonites episode too!)
no regrets! hahaha
Love your blog, too– found it on 20sb!
Jason the snake is laughing all the way to the bank after all this. Really sick ABC would script such an ending on what is supposed to be reality tv. Totally disrespectful to the woman too and gives the snake ALL the power. My last time watching The Bachelor.
Poor Molly will learn some day if she sticks with him…Just look at his eyes in the photo on my blog….he’s crazy!!
TudorCityGirl
http://tudorcitygirl.blogspot.com
The snake has no idea what he wants, nor will he ever. In fact, my prediction is he comes out of the closet in a few years.
I woke up today REALLY REALLY PISSED ABOUT THE BACHELOR. NOTICE THE CAPS. REALLLLLLLLY PISSED.
Still, no love lost for Jason here. I find all these comments so amusing based on what we saw. I have to believe there’s so much more that we don’t know.
Tori – how on earth did he cheat? This I have to know. He kissed a woman, many of them in fact. That doesn’t really constitute cheating in most people’s minds. I think I found my own blog topic. I don’t want to stink up Brandy’s blog with my thoughts.
Where’s the option about him being a BIG FAT crybaby?
He cried more damn times in the last 2 episodes than 30 Rock won Emmy’s. Yes, that’s right…he bawled 8 damn times! And seriously, bent over, draped over the balcony wall, wailing away like a banshee…when’s the last time you did that? Don’t have a cow Homer!
Just a wee bit excessive…in my humble opinion.
Jason. sucks.
i’m a sucker and totally cried at the proposal.
aaaand esentially felt cheated and robbed 3 minutes later.
un.be.lievable.
i was laughing at the ridiculousness.
he gives me this really weird vibe now, like a deviant horrible fetish dude now.
i hope he has a freakishly small penis
man i’m with you on this one. i didn’t watch ONE episode of the bachelor all season and somehow found myself transfixed for 2 hours just like you. jason is a tool and i curse the day he was born after what i saw last night.
also, i’d be happy if i never had to hear the word “journey” after last night either. BLECK.
Egan-I meant he cheated not in that he cheated ON someone, just that he cheated on what the premise of the show was. He chose one person. But then he cheated the game by switching and choosing another. He wasn’t supposed to get to pick two people to try out in real life like that. I was somewhat being silly about saying he cheated at the show though.
What is cheating Tori? There are rules to love and life? ABC has strict guidelines about how his relationship will be documented in front of the cameras. I’m not really sure I follow you though. So you’re saying he should have been more concerned about the integrity of the show than his emotions? He wasn’t supposed to get to pick two people? Now that’s funny. You make it sound like he’s getting away with murder or something. He simply had a change of heart and I’m sure most of us have been where he was. If not, consider yourself one of the lucky ones.
Egan-I think you are misunderstanding me. First of all, I am not taking this too seriously, so maybe that is the problem? I was mostly kidding about the cheating thing in the first place.
I just think he needs to stop and take his time before putting the idea of marriage out there so fast. The only part I have the problem with is that he said he wasn’t sure who he would choose and then chose AND PROPOSED MARRIAGE the day after he said he wasn’t sure who to choose. That is the part that gets me. A person shouldn’t propose marriage if only the day before they can’t decide which woman to choose. Don’t you agree with that? In truth, I don’t really care who he ends up with, he can change his mind all he wants and yes it works like that in real life too. I don’t know him and I have no idea what really went on. The part I can’t understand is why he proposed when the day before he wasn’t sure who to choose. That is the part that doesn’t make sense to me.
I didn’t see this as I was flying, but I did hear all about it. And then I threw up.
I wonder if it was scripted…
http://www.redheadedjournal.wordpress.com
I am convinced all reality shows are scripted, at least to an extent. There’s just too much perfectly placed drama for it to be otherwise, you know? Thankfully I’ve never watched the bachelor, but I do admit (shamefully) to occasionally being transfixed by Rock of Love. I can’t help it! Bret Michael’s is as fake as every dumb blond on that show, and watching them all try to interact like real people is just funny.
Tori – here’s my final go at you on this topic. So you stated earlier that he didn’t follow the rules of the show. Now you’re going back and wondering why he bothered to propose to Melissa a day after he couldn’t decide between the two of them. Well, he decided because ABC probably demanded it. I’m sure his preference would be to date, but the endgame of the show is to propose on TV. I honestly believe he thought Melissa was right for him, but a few weeks into their engagement some red flags were noticed. Would it be prudent to continue dating her while realizing his true feelings for Molly? I think not. Here’s the final thing that doesn’t make sense, why are we fighting over this? Meow! Let’s fight over Jillian!
Egan-Jillian is hot and her slight accent made her more so. That I think we can agree on for sure. Right? We do both share a love for Canadians if I remember correctly.
I see your point now about ABC probably making him propose to someone. If that is the case then I get it and I don’t necessarily blame him for his actions, only it is unfortunate the way it all happend. For the record I never thought he should stay with Melissa if he had feelings for Molly, just was sort of confused about the way the whole thing happened.
I’m with Marissa. I watched the finale and both after the rose shows and the whole thing seems too fishy to me. Like DeAnna showing up and conveniently telling him NOT to follow his heart. It was like they threw that in there as a scapegoat for him picking Melissa. It annoys me that EVERY season is “the most dramatic season in Bachelor history.” But I’ll be watching Jillian in May for sure.
I did happen to tune into part of the last day of that “after the rose” thing, though I didn’t watch the show at all. and i heard all of those phrases at least ten times.
Gag me.
tori and egan – i saw today that he didn’t HAVE to propose, it was totally his choice.
Sidenote: My favourite moment was also when Melissa called Jason a bastard, and it was heartbreaking but spot on when she said that he robbed her of her chance to only be engaged once.
The only good thing that came out of this whole thing is Jillian (who is in fact one of the coolest canadians I’ve ever seen, presently company not included!) is going to be the new bachelorette. This is my first season, really WATCHING the bachelor & it sucked me in. Poor Melissa, I feel horrible that she had to go through being dumped on national television – but better now than months from now. As for Jason, I’m with Brookem – part of me feels a little tiny bit bad for him, because your heart wants what your heart wants BUT why couldn’t he have figured that out before he proposed to the girl????
Oh & as for words or phrases I never wanna hear “I can’t imagine not going home with you” – seriously I think he said that to both of em. Gross.
ugh i am so glad i didn’t watch this season – though i am loving everyone’s recaps on the events! what a skeeze bucket.
tori & egan — actually they don’t have to propose at the end of the show. I can’t remember which season it was, but there was a previous one where the guy said at the end that he was going to “hold onto the ring” until they were ready. Which is probably a good thing, because they ended up breaking it off. It was Jason’s choice to propose.
I still think that there was something else going on behind the scenes that we didn’t see. I think it’s fine if he had a change of heart. Happens in real life all the time. ALTHOUGH, I still think it was really low to do that on national tv.
Of course he doesn’t have to propose as others before him have opted to do. However, there’s a gameplan in place. He also didn’t have to go to New Zealand, but he did. I mean, why turn that down? I honestly think he loved Melissa at the time he proposed. Something in the weeks following went wrong though. One look at Melissa’s face before Jason said a word on Monday night tells the story.
Mandy, I think we’re on the same page here, except for your very last point. ABC dictates how he will share details about his relationship. I guarantee if he didn’t have to do that on national TV, he wouldn’t.
