10 in 2010

I considered doing a “let’s reflect on everything that happened in 2009” post, but honestly? My brain works better moving forward, rather than looking back. And although 2009 had some ultra, let’s-just-up-and-down-clapping-our-hands-we-are-so-damn-happy-I-look-drunk-with-joy, moments (hello new job! hello H.A.D! hello bangs that don’t make me look like I’m 9 years old!)- I’m ready to move into 2010.

So in the spirit of reflection and moving forward (and yes, it’s possible to do both), here’s 10 great, big, off-the-charts,shout-out-loud, moments I’m excited for in 2010.

1. I’m really working hard on being a better teacher. December… well, let’s just say December left me a little ragged.  I showed up the last week of work looking like Courtney Love after a street fight and my lesson plans consisted of listening to Christmas music while creating ornate Christmas crafts involving styrofoam cups, glitter glue and a wicked amount of determination. I put in 14 hours at school today, hunkered down over my new literacy goals (none of which involve singing “Rudolph the Red-Nose Reindeer” while silently cursing that your googly eyes won’t stick to the construction paper) and am so ready to drop  some knowledge bombs on my kids.

2.  The H.A.D has an appointment tomorrow. One of those ones that you write down in your planner but you really don’t need to write down in your planner because IT’S AN APPOINTMENT- the kind important kind that gets CAPS ATTACK, the kind that you can’t possibly forget. And though we still don’t know what’s going on, I’m so, so, so ready for some good news. I refuse to think that it will be anything but- so I’m really, ridiculously, over the moon- looking forward to hearing some good news tomorrow. Good news, people. Good damn news.

3. Bloggers In Vegas? Yes. Methinks this needs to happen. (I also need to stop saying ‘methinks’. I know. I KNOW.)

4. Friday, November 19th. What’s that you ask? Oh, just the date of the next *HARRY POTTER MOVIE. Maybe you’ve heard of this particular boy wizard? (Unlike this person.. which still leaves me baffled. I’m not kidding. Sometimes when I’m stuck in traffic or in the shower, I’ll think ‘she didn’t know who Harry Potter was‘ and then my brain just shuts down because it doesn’t know how to process that kind of information).

5. The results of the 20sb awards. I want all the winners to write speeches of acceptance and thank me when they win. (Including Ben, who I consider the Meryl Streep of blogging- he is lovable, talented and has heaps of rightfully deserved accolades thrown his way).

6. The return of Glee. Is it shallow and small that the return of a television show makes my top 10 things to be excited about in 2010? (I said this before reflecting on the fact that the new HARRY POTTER MOVIE made the cut as well. Oh universe.  Is there no limit to my geekdom?).

7.  More friend time. Life has been hectic since I became you know, employed (hooray for regular pay cheques! boo for getting up before 10 9 8 am)- and I miss my friends. I miss them a thousand times a day and find myself reflecting on the amazing times we had with more and more wistfulness. Because as fantastic as life can be, as structured and safe and productive your world is- there is nothing, nothing like spending the evening with someone who has seen you puke in a flower bush, wipe your mouth off with your sleeve and then proceed to sing “Heartbreaker” while wobbling in your too tall shoes. (I know. H.A.D. is a ridiculously lucky guy. I’m so classy, someone should name a handbag after me).

8. The Olympics, baby! I’m just going to get on my soapbox, throw my toque on, grab a beer and get ridiculously Canadian on you and admit that I think of the Vancouver 2010 Olympics, daily. Sometimes, twice a day. I’m not sure when this obsession first started, but I’m a hardcore Olympic junkie. Like, the kind who a few years ago, was setting her alarm at 4 am to watch curling. February is going to kick all sorts of ass. (For the record? My obsession only applies to winter Olympics. I find the summer Olympics about as entertaining as matching socks).

9. It’s currently -20F (-29C) outside right now with something called FREEZING FOG in the air. So naturally, I’m looking forward to June, July and August. Or just a time when I can go outside and breathe without feeling Mother Nature shove her frigid fist down my throat, freeze my lungs into chunks of ice and make breathing as enjoyable as a televised pap smear.

10. Travel plans the H.A.D and I have. Sigh, I know. I’m so sappy, I’m a freaking maple tree (wait- that’s syrup.. damn, I just messed up an almost clever comparison).  But universe? If you knew all the plans we have, all the places we want to go and ridiculous conversations that we have on the regular (that he continually insists he will put on ‘the blog’), you’d be excited too.

What are you most excited for in 2010?

(If it involves the HARRY POTTER MOVIE, just get over here and exchange friendship bracelets with me already)

* I own a wand people. My excitement over this movie (even 11 months early) cannot be overstated.

  • freezing fog is totally the most ridic thing ever. be super careful if you have to drive in it. it is frightening.

also, will be sending seriously good vibes to HAD tomorrow. cannot WAIT to hear the good news!!!

  • SEEING YOUR FACE IN VEGAS (and bens and everyone elses. but mostly yours). thanking you when i win my award (presumptuous much?). my husband returning from iraq. getting married (for real) in the carribean. quitting my 9-5 and becoming a full time photographer. did i mention that my husband comes home from iraq halfway through the year?! that might be the best ever.

oh, and for the record? “methinks” is adorable.

  • I AM GOING THROUGH SERIOUS GLEE WITHDRAWALS, which I just had to write in all caps just then because Mr. Shue singing (and dancing) Bust a Move? Pretty much the best thing ever. Second only to that finale, which I will herein admit I’ve watched at least eight times. When he rounds the corner in a dead run? I started CRYING. (Gleeks, UNITE.)

Oh, and also psyched for: Harry Potter (of course!), bungee jumping (my first time ever), kayaking, hiking and moving into an apartment with my best and most hilarious friend.

  • I love that you consider Ben a blogger Meryl. I think he is too.

I’m moving to Canada. 2010 is going to amount to a completely new experience for me. I’m going to BE in Vancouver for the Olympics; another new experience. Those two things along with others suggest I should use my camera a lot more next year.

I canNOT wait until Hermione’s new movie.

    ;)

  • What in the world is freezing fog!? That sounds dreadful.

Will think many, many, many positive thoughts for H.A.D tomorrow. I pray for good news for both of you.

You’re going to Vegas!? Yet another reason for celebration and a happy dance.

And you’re not alone with the excitement over Glee. I just watched the first season (pathetic, I know) and literally can’t wait.

  • Oh I’m totally sending you and HAD positive thoughts ALL day tomorrow!!!! I hope I can make it to vegas too!

  • It is totally okay in my book to look forward to this year because of Harry Potter and Glee. (It’s also totally okay to keep using the word ‘methinks.’) I am just barely getting by listening to my Glee soundtracks and knowing that I’m getting the first season on DVD for my birthday. JUST. BARELY. And as for Harry Potter, whoa-my-gosh, I seriously cannot wait.

Other than that, I’m looking forward to finally finding a job this year and improving my health (which was sucktastic in 2009).

Oh, and I’ll definitely be sending good thoughts to you and HAD all day tomorrow !!

  • Kendall

When it comes to the olympics, I am your opposite. Aside from ice hockey, I couldn’t care less about the winter games.

I am however super excited for Deathly Hallows. Feels like the end of an era.

  • I’m totally and completely looking forward to the HARRY POTTER MOVIE!!!!!!!!!!! Where’s my bracelet?

Also, “Or just a time when I can go outside and breathe without feeling Mother Nature shove her frigid fist down my throat, freeze my lungs into chunks of ice and make breathing as enjoyable as a televised pap smear.” made me snort Dr. Pepper out my nose. I feel your pain, oh do I feel your pain.

  • November 19? My birthday =}
    Harry Potter FTW.
Yeah, I’d love to exchange friendship bracelets. But the last person I did that with gave it back [and I gave it to my mum =}], so I’ll just smile wearily and agree about the Harry Potter thing.

  • liferehab

Just reading that list made me excited for 2010. I’m sending positive thoughts your way today.

  • Vegas = STOKED.

In fact, all of those things = stoked. And you know about 40 million of us will be pulling for you with that APPOINTMENT today.

Huge hugs and only the best of thoughts…

  • EVERY teacher’s lesson plans look like that in December. ALWAYS.

  • You have a wand???? I’m so jealous! Not a day goes by that I don’t wish I was Harry Potter. I plan on going to the theme park when it opens and promptly getting a wand. Top on my list for 2010. No shame. Embrace.

  • Marie

Really hoping for the very bestest news for the H.A.D.!!

Even though it’s been ridiculously cold here, I’m thankful we don’t have freezing fog. That just sounds too cold for words. Stay warm!

  • I’ve always loved Harry Potter and now that I am reading the series to my daughter I get to spread the love. After we finish each book we reward ourselves by buying the movie ($16 BluRay @ Costco FTW!). Luckily I read slow enough that by the time I finish the last book BOTH of the 7th book movies will be out on BluRay.

  • Kristine

Many many many many good wishes for the Appointment. Note the capitalisation. Many many many.

And I am obsessed with the winter Olympics as well. Since they are all the way in the West this year and I’m in the East it’s going to mean a lot of no sleep this February. Cannot wait!

  • Ben

    What the!

    Who the!

You’re too sweet. Way to make my day.

But then you planted the scary seed of Freezing Fog which I’ve never heard of, let alone experienced. Crazy Canada…

  • Harry Potter is on my calendar for 2010. I’m super excited about it already. I received the Half-Blood Prince on blu-ray for Christmas. If you haven’t already, there is a small preview for the Deathly Hallows that *might* hold you over for a few weeks. Oh, and yeah, I have a wand too. =)

    Happy 2010!

  • of course Harry Potter is on my list, but i thought the first installment was coming out in june of 2010, i could be mistaken, but i dont think the universe will be able to handle me waiting that long…

of course many many happy-positive-good-great-thoughts directed at you and H.A.D!!

    Happy 2010!

  • i cannot conceive of freezing fog. my sympathies that you must not only conceive of it, but actually experience it. i’m also working on being a better employee – which i’m being super successful at by walking in at 9:20 and immediately going to my google feed and commenting on blogs. i *just* watched the last ep of glee that aired on hulu last night and yes, i’m also v. excited for it’s return. that and lost. aaand of course, good luck tomorrow, although with your attitude i’m not really sure you need luck at all :)

  • They make sap into syrup, so I’m going to say it works!

Happy new year! I hope all goes well with HAD’s appointment tomorrow; you guys deserve some wonderful news.

  • Crossing my fingers for #2!

  • The night before I got married my dad looked at me and said he couldn’t imagine me happier if I found out I was accepted to Hogwarts. We’re a Potter loving’ family.

    Good news tomorrow!

  • I’m scared to get excited about the Harry Potter movie because last time I did that, those damn execs at WB had to go PUSH BACK THE RELEASE DATE and ruin it for me. BASTARDS. I’m still bitter about that.

  • I AM SO EXCITED FOR HARRY POTTER! Before the sixth one came out I had a movie marathon and watched the first five with friends. Totally doing that again before this one. Where’s my friendship bracelet?!

And the Winter Olympics are my fav. Cannot wait to see some speed skating!

  • I am
    be
    YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOND
excited about the new Harry Potter movie(s). My boyfriend got me into Harry Potter this year and I am on the Deathly Hallows right now. I’m very close to the end and I am about to pee myself with anticipation to finish it!!!

  • Good luck on H.A.D.’s news, and honestly, I think that I would have paid a lot of attention if Courtney Love was teaching me. It would have been from fear, but I’m sure you held their attention just fine =)

Come to Vegas!! And I’m excited about the 20SB awards too. I’m pretty sure I’m going to bomb them again, which will be a grounding experience. So there’s that to look forward to! lol

I’m excited for getting through this winter without getting sick. The past few years breathing the winter air agitated my lungs to the point that I got bronchitis. I’m trying really hard to avoid that this year.

  • Bloggers in Vegas?

Wow, the first time in my life I’m in the States, and it’s that weekend and it’s Vegas we’re going to.

Seriously – I think this is fate! Hadn’t even heard of this until your post so thanks for making me aware of it.

  • Amy

not knowing about Harry Potter just reminded me that my mom doesn’t know what Twilight is!!?!?! I was like- uh, have you been living under a rock?

those are some great things to be excited about this year :)

  • So today is H.A.D.’s appointment and I just want to say GOOD LUCK! Woo! The power of positive thinking!

Lots of love and kitten kisses,
    CP

  • i cannot even fathom #9. like, it’s fucking 13F outside here, and im dying. i can’t imagine -20. bundle up!

good luck with the appointment today. you know im thinking of you both.

  • Lauren B.

Oh, my cousins, sister and I (all of whom are over the age of 18) still going to all Harry Potter midnight showings and are planning a road trip to the theme park ASAP. The day I get to drink butterbeer and stroll through Honeyduke’s and the Great Hall? WILL BE THE BEST DAY OF MY LIFE.

  • Hahaha, I’m so excited for the new HP movie too! :)

  • SM

So here’s the thing. I want to be excited for the new HP movie. But the last HP movie? Well, to say I was disappointed wouldn’t be the half of how I felt. Maybe if I weren’t such a huge fan of the books, I could appreciate the movies more. But I’ve read the books so many times and love them so much and think they are so perfect that I just can’t get past how they ended #6.

I hope all went well at your man’s appointment.

  • I cannot wait until Glee returns. That is absolutely acceptable to be on your list! :)

  • bethie

F some freezing fog! I wonder if we get that in Buffalo??

I’m looking forward to moving there, PASSING the NY bar exam (yes I like this positive thinking philosophy), finding a kickass new job and meeting new people…

I think this will also be a year of travels. Brandy, should I join you for the Olympics or Harry Potter??

  • Glee and Harry Potter. Le Sigh I love them. We should be Best friends, we can have matching best friend wands or something

  • Good luck with the appointment today!

I’m also insanely excited about the Olympics. Yay Canada. Unfortunately, even though I’m only 4 hours away, I won’t be going :(

  • RachelK

Lots of good thoughts for your H.A.D. and the appointment!!

  • Harry Potter and Glee are definitely on my 2010 excitement list! I might have taken a half day off in 2009 to sleep in after the midnight showing of the last HP movie. No shame there.

But also in 2010: I hope to be a home owner by April or thereabouts. And in September *fingers crossed* husband’s Army Reserve contract will end and I won’t have to worry about him getting shipped off to dangerous places for long periods of time! :D

  • In addition to being super psyched for both the Winter Olympics aaaaanddd the Harry Potter movie, 2010 also marks the opening of the new Hogwarts/Harry Potter theme park at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida. I think you should add that to the list of travel plants with H.A.D. Oh yes, and I’m sending many many many good thoughts your way for H.A.D’s appointment tomorrow.

    -Erin

P.S. I admire your commitment to your personal and professional goals. I’m sure you’re an excellent teacher.

  • Yeah for Glee!! And Harry Potter! Although, new Harry Potter movies make me sad there’s no new books coming out. I guess I’ll have to reread them again.

I’m sending you good vibes! Hope the appointment goes well.

  • nic

Honestly? Getting out of credit card debt. I made some piss poor choices in my twenties and turn 30 this year. I’m happy to not be bringing those mistakes into a new decade of my life. AND, because I’ll have more “free” money afterward, I’m going to travel my little heart out. :)

Good list Fancy Pants. Hope all is going well with you two today.

  • i’m so so excited for bloggers in vegas and glee, i mean really. two of the greatest things ever. superb!

  • oh and since you are coming to vegas i ask that you bring your sparkly toothbrush, because it’s just too awesome to not see in person.

  • Guess why you and I are friends? Because we are shoutout sisters on More is Better via Nicole the great.

Do you think I’m a lame-o yet? You will when I stalk your face off.

    Heart you.

  • Oh em gee, do you have any idea how much I wish I was at all able to go to this Bloggers in Vegas extravaganza?? Bloggers! in VEGAS! Alas. It is not to be. I weep.

Hope the HAD’s appointment went well… keeping my fingers crossed for you both!

  • Hopefully, this year I can meet my own hot awesome dude.

I so want to do the Bloggers in Sin City weekend but I looked at flight prices recently and shed a silent tear. I’m hoping I come across some magical 75% off promo code in the coming months.

Also, I’m looking forward to the return of GLEE. April cannot get here quick enough.

good thoughts for you and the dude!!

  • selecu

i just read your guest post on clevergirlgoesblog, and i wanna repost it on mine (beautyandthecleats.com) if that’s okay :)

prayers and best wishes to you and H.A.D.

  • VEGASVEGASVEGASVEGASVEGASVEGASVEGASVEGASVEGASVEGASVEGASVEGASVEGASVEGASVEGASVEGASVEGASVEGASVEGASVEGASVEGASVEGASVEGASVEGASVEGASVEGASVEGASVEGASVEGASVEGASVEGASVEGASVEGASVEGASVEGASVEGASVEGASVEGASVEGASVEGASVEGASVEGASVEGASVEGASVEGAS

I’m sorry. Did you say something about Vegas?

    YOU ARE SO GOING.

  • YESSSSS to harry potter, glee, and olympics!!! GO CANADA, EH!
I’m going to Whistler next week!!!! And then I get to MEET Princess Pointful!!! HURRRAYYYYYYYYYY

also, i totally need to invest in a harry costume.

  • Caz

#8 means that obviously me and you are twins. Seriously. I may or may not have been looking forward to these Olympics since 2003!!!!!

and I also agree that the winter ones are WAY better than the summer olympics. I constantly get in arguments with people here in Aus who say the Summer olympics are the “REAL” olympics and the winter ones don’t count. It maybe makes me want to drop kick them :-) It’s just cuz they’re jealous because they have no idea what to do with snow!

  • Most looking forward to in 2010? HARRY POTTER THEME PARK!!!!

I can’t fathom not knowing Harry Potter… like, the thought won’t let my brain wrap around it. I don’t understand. Where does this woman find joy if not in Harry Potter????

Which is like never having seen Titanic. I found out TWO of my coworkers today (in a film office!) have never seen it. 13 years, guys. Get on it.

  • Now that I live near New Orleans….Mardi Gras baby!

  • Vegas! Seriously! I cannot wait, and I really, REALLY want to be able to make it to the get together again this year.

And it sounds like 2010 is going to be a good one. (: I cannot wait to hear all about it!

  • Oh it’s you! I have been familiar with your title for a while but I did not realise that you were Brandy-Brandy until, well, now. You are a bit hilarious, FYI.
    Sending positivity your way!

  • i’m looking forward to finally getting my graduate degree in may. getting a grown up job (or am i excited about this???…..). turning 25 in october. and obviously the most important, HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS!

  • So I’m somewhat of a lurker but I have to say…I to own a wand. Who the hell doesn’t know Harry Potter? I’m confused?!?!?Do they live in a box? A keyhole? The rainforest in a tree and don’t shave? I don’t grasp this.
    Also going to Vegas!!!

  • Harry Potter…very excited!

  • Dude I’m SO EXCITED for the Harry potter movie(s) but at the same time it’s so depressig that this is it :(

  • Hello there. I’m a newbie visitor.
I’m excited about Harry Potter too. And can I just say.. I actually HAVE a wand? Admittedly, it’s a replica that my mum made for me after she found something online about how they made the movie wands, which I actually doubt is true, considering it’s paper and glue, and surely the props department for Harry Potter has better things to do than roll up A4 sheets of paper and fill them with glue? Anyway. It looks like Hermione’s, and I pretty much love it.
Anyway. She makes wands. They’re pretty impressive. I am clearly not a wizard though, because none of the charms work with my rolled up paper wand.
