In defense of my ipod

I know exactly when it happened.

My first year of university, I started dating this guy. A music guy. Who actually got watery eyed when he searched through my CD collection and found Now 4. And not only did he find that particular CD extremely and personally offensive, he found dozens more like it. In fact, he didn’t find a single CD to approve of in the mix of boy bands and mainstream pop.

Instead of defending my choices, I meekly listened as he raved about all the new, hip and obscure bands I had never heard of- that were …READ MORE

Tuesday is for Music Lovers II

I previously did a post where I discussed six songs that dragged me down memory lane. I will use any excuse to listen to the tragic songs on my itunes, so I decided to spend the day listening to my entire collection (again, not just the six songs I play on repeat), while wrapping Christmas gifts (yes, I’m that annoying person this year- before you hate me consider the fact maybe I’m wrapping a gift for you?) and recall a few more stand out tracks.

Last time I did this, I had others join along and post their own memorable …READ MORE

The Facts of My Life

Fact: I will be unable to tell people I’m going to a Taylor Swift concert this week without squealing like I’m a 14 year old girl. Which is perfect really, because that would make me fit into her actual demographic. (Related fact: This might be the cutest video ever. I’m only glad that I’m watching it at 28 years old instead of 14 years old because it would have just set unrealistic standards of what high school love is like. Not like now… now I watch The Notebook weekly to make sure my expectations are unreasonable.)

Fact: I should be …READ MORE

I got a few emails today asking where The Secret Project was. The truth is, submissions have slowed so I’m going to post once a month. I have to say, The Secret Project is such a treat for me to share. There were some secrets that made me cry, ones that made me laugh out loud, ones that broke my heart into eleventy thousand pieces- and there was one secret someone shared that was one that I kept too. And checking my inbox and finding that someone else had gone through something I had? Well, it was …READ MORE

2008: Music, Cocktails & Hair

I thought this was an appropriate grouping of best/worst ’08 topics to share considering I spent a lot of my Saturday night drinking martinis and then later refused to get out of a car until I had sung this entire song for my friend. I sang with my eyes closed, with my head bopping and with elaborate hand gestures, all while still wearing my seat belt.  My liver and I are back on speaking terms, but I’m fairly certain my friend is scarred for life.

Of course my holiday post talks of sex, football and Tom Cruise

Ten Six Things That ROCKED this Holiday Season

1. Quality family time. Even though we play the most competitive board games ever (Risk anyone?) and I got completely schooled, it was still fun. You know, once I was back on speaking terms with my mom. Sure, she may have brought me into the world, but was it completely necessary to dismantle my entire strategy to take over North America in ONE TURN? NO. The answer is NO IT WAS NOT.

2. Time with friends. The friends who are still friends with you despite *2003. The friends who know what …READ MORE

Mixtapes For Everybody!

You know when you’ve gone days without sleep because you and your friend thought it would be hilarious to drink three cases of beer and go dancing instead of sleeping? And you are tired, but not in the “I’m so sleepy” way, but in the way that makes the word ‘ketchup’ suddenly the FUNNIEST thing ever?

Yeah.

That’s how I feel right now except I’ve been sleeping. And you know, not drinking liters of beer.  In fact, I’ve been sleeping well, and today even bought the greatest new shoes (these ones in black). So, I thought I should give you …READ MORE

I end this post on such a classy note

I lose my phone all the time. I don’t think I’ve gone a full month without misplacing it.  On the other hand, I still have a note given to me from a boy when we were in the sixth grade.

I can sleep anywhere but am nervous to sneeze in front of strangers. I can pretend that Santa Claus is real, that the Tooth Fairy really does leave money, that leprechauns do exist but I can’t fake liking people I don’t.

In the past, I’ve been weirded out by people who’ve had rooms dedicated to their favorite tv show yet …READ MORE

Tuesday is for Music Lovers

I decided today that I should start listening to my ENTIRE itunes library. Not just, the six songs that I listen to on repeat. As I started listening, I realized two things 1) a song can really take you back to a memory you had forgotten and 2) I have too much Will Smith in my music collection. Really, it’s embarrassing. (Almost as embarrassing as the album name “Big Willie Style”. Seriously. Who thought that was a good idea?)  Anyway, as I puttered throughout the day, songs came on that took me back to a memory relating to those who …READ MORE

Musts

Everyone has them. The movie you must see, the song you must hear, the book you must read, the city you must visit. When I talk about my ‘musts’ I’m almost fanatical, my feelings are so strong on each of them. My list of ‘musts’ don’t necessarily mean they are my favorite. They are just what has stood out, became memorable and left me with something that I think others might find valuable. So, I give you a few of my ‘musts’, and hope that you will tell me a few of yours
