Writing to you from yesterday

It’s Tuesday right now.

Of course, you are reading this on a Wednesday. Or, if you are like me (and hate google reader), you are reading this 2 months from now on a lovely March day while preparing your liver for St. Patricks Day and stomach assaulting *Irish carbombs.

Either way. I’m writing this yesterday. (That sentence makes little sense but also blew my mind.)

So, the reason why I’m writing this a day before and using the romantic ability to plan a later publish date is on the day you read this I’m going to be in the hospital. …READ MORE

A question about relationships (aka: I’m pulling a *Jay-Z aka: hello blog!)

A few weeks ago, I was spending my free time putting together a list of reading strategies for a bulletin board to help kids comprehend what they are reading. (And yes, this is what teachers do in their free time. So before you start going all “JULY AND AUGUST HOLIDAYS” on me, I’m just going to stop you right here and tell you to suck it.) One of the strategies that most experts agree on, is that a student needs to be able to recognize relationships in writing and understand what these relationships mean. As seen here. Please note how …READ MORE

In defense of my ipod

I know exactly when it happened.

My first year of university, I started dating this guy. A music guy. Who actually got watery eyed when he searched through my CD collection and found Now 4. And not only did he find that particular CD extremely and personally offensive, he found dozens more like it. In fact, he didn’t find a single CD to approve of in the mix of boy bands and mainstream pop.

Instead of defending my choices, I meekly listened as he raved about all the new, hip and obscure bands I had never heard of- that were …READ MORE

Tell Me I’m Normal

1. When I go to Starbucks,  I become irrationally worried that I’m going to forget my order. I will spend the entire time stuck in the drive thru saying my order on repeat.  But attempting to say it casually as well, so I don’t come off as a *robot. (Because yes, that’s a serious concern I have- people mistaking me for a robot). “Venti, non-fat, no whip, white hot chocolate, Venti, non-fat, no whip, white hot chocolate. Why yes, it IS cold out today. Oh you like my hair? Thank you! What would I like? Oh that’s easy, Venti, non-fat, …READ MORE

10 Reasons Why I’m Not A Famous Blogger

You  know, you’ve done it too. You find yourself with 10 minutes to spare, click ‘bookmarks’ and scroll down to a famous blogger you have bookmarked. I’m not talking famous in your world blogger, the kind that your particular blogger group, seems to have crowned homecoming king or queen, I’m talking about famous to the ENTIRE world blogger. The kind of blogger who has one name- and everybody knows it. You scroll down to their too hip for more than one syllable name, and click- waiting for that feeling of envy and happiness to rise up inside you, like it …READ MORE

Here’s what they didn’t tell you

They didn’t tell you how fun blogging could be. How excited you would be when you got your first comment, when you saw your name on someone’s blogroll, when you plucked out a handful of words from the vast English language to make sentence you were proud to write. A sentence that you would re-read because you loved it so much, a sentence that would ring in your head and roll off your tongue like poetry. No, they didn’t tell you that.

They didn’t tell you about the community. My word, the community. The people you would meet, the friends …READ MORE

A Beautiful Dropkick

It surprises me when I discover I am loved.

That sounds silly doesn’t? As though one should take for granted being loved as easy as one takes for granted air or space or the continued beat of their own heart despite a deep rooted love for corn dogs.

But it surprises me to discover I am loved.

When the words leave someone else and are shot straight to me- like a rubber band filled with nervous excitement, ” I love you“, three words that light up even the darkest night,  I find that I have no room to be delighted- …READ MORE

Let Me Tell You How This Works

Maybe you meet in a coffee shop- no, of course you don’t, who ever meets in a coffee shop? Maybe you meet in a crowded pub when his beer splashes your arm and as you wipe it dry you rack your brain thinking of all the clever things you always wanted to say if you were ever to meet a boy like this.  Or maybe you meet through friends or online or maybe you meet at work- and through a handful of casual conversations discussing weekend plans and the weather you decide you like this boy.

However it happens, you …READ MORE

Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda…

I can’t… Wear maxi dresses (I look like I’m playing dress up). Watch Fox News without yelling. Make jello (it just.. never works). Flirt. Push the snooze button.

I can.. Drive a tractor. Sign my name in sign language faster than I can say it out loud. Teach 19 second graders how to hand write.  Fall asleep in any moving vehicle. Admit to loving public speaking. Check my email far too often for it to be considered healthy. Make 32 pirate costumes in five days. Always tell you which way north is.

I won’t… Buy Cosmo magazine anymore. Kiss and …READ MORE

The One That I’m Writing Just For You

I was told once that I’m not a personal blogger. I write about what’s going on at school, I wax on about my love for Josh Lyman and tequila but when it comes to sharing stories about my friends or family? I don’t find myself writing those stories easily. Perhaps because I feel guarded- those friends and family, well I adore them in the ways you adore the things you can’t imagine living without.  I keep them, I keep their stories close to me the way you sometimes hold on to good news or happy memories, because you love them …READ MORE
