The 10 Project: AKA: I NEED YOUR HELP

I drove home today with fingers itching to type this post. Ahh, so this is what it’s like to be inspired!

On a recent road trip, I listened to The Five Secrets You Must Discover Before You Die (STAY WITH ME, NOW) and it blew my mind in the way that only having someone articulate the things you already believe deep down inside but don’t know how to say does. The secrets are based on interviews with people who were nominated all across Canada and the United States due to the wisdom, happiness and contentment they displayed to those around …READ MORE

When You Have Too Much To Say, This Is How You Say It

Dear students in my new class, I already adore you. Sure, you don’t need me in the same ways as my class last year but you still are so innocent and entertaining. While reading to you about Terry Fox, I looked up  and realized that not a single one of you were playing with toys in your desk or were blowing spit bubbles. All 23 of you sat in rapt attention and a few of you looked close to tears as we talked about what it must have taken to get up each morning and run, like Terry did. And …READ MORE

August and Everything After

Oh hi.

I have a blog?

What wonderful news!

Seriously though, the last month has been a whirlwind of pie baking and sleepovers and dress freakouts and pictures posed while modeling 1 am lush flush. There’s been swimming in clear water, fighting grasshoppers and napping under trees. There’s been last minute speech meltdowns and celebratory high fives. There’s been gasps over the dress, sighs over the kiss and a successful mission to recapture a flower girl gone rogue.

Originally, my plan was to try and keep life sane while preparing to watch my best friend get married- though eventually through …READ MORE

To my grade 3 class,

I have exactly 31 teaching days with you left. You don’t realize this yet- you are eight years old and the concept of counting down to something other than Christmas is beyond your reality. You are living for soccer at recess and spelling games and Art class on Friday. You live for computer class free time and the moment you realize how to multiply 6 by 7. That’s one of my favourite things about you- you aren’t thinking about tomorrow because you are too busy filling up today.

And you’ve filled up my year beyond …READ MORE

Writing to you from yesterday

It’s Tuesday right now.

Of course, you are reading this on a Wednesday. Or, if you are like me (and hate google reader), you are reading this 2 months from now on a lovely March day while preparing your liver for St. Patricks Day and stomach assaulting *Irish carbombs.

Either way. I’m writing this yesterday. (That sentence makes little sense but also blew my mind.)

So, the reason why I’m writing this a day before and using the romantic ability to plan a later publish date is on the day you read this I’m going to be in the hospital. …READ MORE

Things I know this year, that I did not know last

I know. I knoooooooooow. We are only 12 days into the new year and already I’m going to bust my enlightened self all on your ass. But you know, I’ve had entire years where the total learning experiences has culminated in learning: 1. The darker the liquor the more likely you are going to want to stab yourself the next morning 2. When your stack of jeans is almost taller of you, it’s time to stop buying 3. Using your student loan to buy jeans will result in you wanting to stab yourself for 5 years after you graduate.

All …READ MORE

10 Reasons Why I’m Not A Famous Blogger

You  know, you’ve done it too. You find yourself with 10 minutes to spare, click ‘bookmarks’ and scroll down to a famous blogger you have bookmarked. I’m not talking famous in your world blogger, the kind that your particular blogger group, seems to have crowned homecoming king or queen, I’m talking about famous to the ENTIRE world blogger. The kind of blogger who has one name- and everybody knows it. You scroll down to their too hip for more than one syllable name, and click- waiting for that feeling of envy and happiness to rise up inside you, like it …READ MORE

A Beautiful Dropkick

It surprises me when I discover I am loved.

That sounds silly doesn’t? As though one should take for granted being loved as easy as one takes for granted air or space or the continued beat of their own heart despite a deep rooted love for corn dogs.

But it surprises me to discover I am loved.

When the words leave someone else and are shot straight to me- like a rubber band filled with nervous excitement, ” I love you“, three words that light up even the darkest night,  I find that I have no room to be delighted- …READ MORE

Fault Lines

I have a healthy ego. I regularly am delighted by my talents (like knowing all the words to this song – just for you Ben), nod in agreement when people tell me I’m great (I assure you, this is a little more adorable and far less annoying than I just made it sound), and marvel at my genius. But people? I’ve got faults. Heaps of them. Truckloads of them. So many that you could stack them up, climb on top of them and touch the moon with your fingertips.

See? I wasn’t kidding.

September has been an amazing month but …READ MORE

Heartbreakers & Dealmakers

I knew a guy once who had the annoying habit of cracking his knuckles before sleep. It drove me INSANE. Nothing is more unsettling than drifting off and being awakened by a large CRACK!, followed by nine more CRACKS! .  (Well, of course there are things more unsettling than this but it really does make my top five- sandwiched in between being woken up by someone staring at you and finding out that your ex-boyfriend used to masturbate to your grade 9 graduation photo. Bullet? Dodged.).

So, I did what any girl who loves sleep more than she should- I …READ MORE
